When Does Life Begin?

WHEN DOES LIFE BEGIN? (By Rita and Edgar Riel)
Some say life begins when the baby takes his or her first breath outside the womb. Most say life begins at conception. Others say life begins midway between conception and the baby taking his or her first breath on its own. With these three different opinions of when life begins, we find that, neither is the Supreme Court of the land able to reach a decision as to when life begins with their natural minds. We say “natural mind” because life’s most important question, “when does life begin?” can only be answered spiritually. What the Supreme Court has decided is the following.

“We need not resolve the difficult question of when life begins…the judiciary at this point, in the development of man’s knowledge, is not in a position to speculate as to the answer.”

Then, the highest court made a key admission:
“If this suggestion of personhood is established, the appellant’s case (or Roe’s case) collapses, for the fetus’ right to life is then guaranteed by the 14th Amendment.”

What the court’s decision is saying, in effect, is that “if personhood is established, then “Roe’s case collapses, and the fetus’ right to life is then guaranteed by the 14th amendment.” Because of the Supreme Court’s openness for any one to bring evidence to when life begins when personhood is established, we take this opportunity to defend personhood by presenting the spiritual understanding of when life begins.

The Supreme Court, which is considered to have the most brilliant, educated and reasonable minds in our country, nevertheless, by their own admission in saying, “the judiciary at this point, in the development of man’s knowledge, is not in a position to speculate as to the answer,” Therefore, the judiciary could not determine when life begins and seems to leave this decision up to technology and science. However, Scripture warns us how science is “falsely so called” (1 Tim. 6:20); (Col. 2:8), and that is because, science reasons with the natural mind and history has proven that science hardly, if ever, except for true science, acknowledges the spiritual. This may very well be the reason why it is said to be “falsely so called” and may lead many away from the truth in discerning the spiritual meaning to when life begins.

Consequently, if these most learned men, we appoint in our nation, cannot establish when life begins within “the development of man’s knowledge” (natural mind), we must then seek the answer in the Word of God: for therein, it will be found spiritually. “But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned” (1 Cor. 2:14) (1 Cor. 15:46).

In relation to this, the Supreme Court and very few people understand that the natural understanding and the things that are seen were given to reveal symbolically the spiritual understanding of the things that are unseen, “For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse” (Rom 1:20). The Godhead spoken of in this verse speaks of “the Father, Son and Holy Spirit” and is showing that we are without excuse if we do not relate to that life being formed in the womb to the life of the “image of the invisible God” in heaven: for God created man ‘in His own image. “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them” (Gen. 1: 27) (Col. 1:15a);. In other words, the personhood that is being made, created and formed invisibly by God in the womb and made in the image of God, is symbolic of the Godhead that is already invisible and established in heaven (Isa. 43:7).

We pray that the following will give further understanding to the Scriptural truths written above.

WHEN LIFE BEGINS:
In this study of when life begins, we will provide two or more verses of Scripture in context as witnesses; “for every Word to be established” (2 Cor. 13:1b); (Deu. 19:15b). We will be using the Word of God, the King James Version, which has been the standard Bible (law) for the past 400 years by which we can judge all things. (Mat 5:18) With this standard for truth, we will proceed to find the answer to the Supreme Court’s decision, which said, “If this suggestion of personhood is established, the appellant’s case (or Roe’s case) collapses, for the fetus’ right to life is then guaranteed by the 14th Amendment.”

Since the answer has been hidden to the natural mind until now, let us seek the spiritual meaning of when life begins. We find that most everyone believes life begins at conception or thereafter even after the baby is born when it takes his or her first breath. This is an answer that can only be found and understood spiritually and not with the natural mind according to (1 Cor. 2:14). What a great victory that would be for the preservation of the potential multiplied millions of lives yet to be born if ‘we the people’ and the Supreme Court would consider and understand the spiritual meaning and evidence presented of when life begins and when personhood is established!

To arrive to the spiritual reality of when life begins, we must first compare the order of the Godhead “in heaven:” – the Father, the WORD and the Holy Spirit – with the order of the God- head being formed and created in the image of God “in earth” as it is “in heaven”. “Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven”(Matt.6:10).

THE ORDER OF THE GODHEAD, WHICH IS “IN HEAVEN”:
“For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one” (1 John 5:7). The order of God “in heaven” is always listed as in the preceding verse throughout Scripture. (Matt. 28:19). The second Person, “the Word”, signifies Jesus. (Rev. 19: 13); (John 1: 14) all three persons of the triune God eternally existed as God, according to His eternal power and Godhead, as said in (Rom. 1:20).

THE ORDER OF THE GODHEAD, WHICH IS “IN EARTH”:
“And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one” (1 John 5:8). The reason the Holy Spirit is mentioned first here, in the only place in Scripture, is because the “three in earth” are looking up to heaven to “bear witness” of the “three that bear record” in heaven” (1 John 5:7). Specifically, these three, – “the Spirit, and the water and the blood” – that agree and bear witness “in earth”, are bearing witness of the order of God that is being formed in the woman, “in earth” as it is in the order of the Godhead that bears record “in heaven” (Matt. 6: 10).

Another reason the Holy Spirit is mentioned first, “in earth” in (1 John 5: 8), is because He is bearing witness of the water and the blood, both of which are symbolic of Jesus, and that the Holy Spirit’s 7 functions or offices “in earth” is to bear witness, “to testify of” and to “glorify” Jesus. (John 15:26b); (John 16:14); (John 14:26b). It is only through the Spirit that man can come to understand the spiritual meaning of “the blood and the water”. Therefore, both (1 John 5:7) and (1 John 5:8) speak of the order of God in the Godhead, so that we can compare life “in heaven” with life being formed and created in the image of God in the woman here “in earth”.

The Father is not mentioned in (1 John 5:8). The reason the Father is not mentioned is because in Jesus, “… dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead bodily” (Col. 2 :9); (1;19). The word “bodily’ is said because Jesus was made and was created bodily in ‘a woman’. “…made of a woman, made under the law” to redeem them that were under the law” (Gal. 4:4b, 5a). Jesus, who was invisible “in heaven” was made visible as a “faithful and true witness” to us here “in earth”. (Rev. 3:14); (Jer. 42:5). “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth” (John 1: 14); “And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh” (1Tim. 3:16a),”in all things he might have the preeminence” (Col. 1:18). Born of the Spirit (Luke 1:35) of a virgin with- out Adam’s sinful bloodline, Jesus lived a perfect life in obedience to His Father, which qualified Him to redeem us from what Adam, nor we, Adam’s descendants, could do by our works.

Therefore, these three: “the Spirit, and the water and the blood”, “bear witness” and “agree” “in earth” (1 John 5:8), of that which is already written and recorded “in heaven” (1 John 5:7). We say, “written” because Jesus always appealed to the totally preserved and “every word” (Luke 4: 4) written Word of God” to correct error by saying “it is written” (Matt. 4:4). God’s Word is “for ever settled in heaven” (Ps. 119: 89, 160); “and the scripture cannot be broken;” (John 10:35).

We are saved and sanctified by faith in the water of the Word (Eph. 5:26) and the blood,  “For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul” (Lev. 17: 11). We can see from this verse eleven that the blood is both applicable to the human life and the spiritual life to be born again by the Holy Spirit “in earth”.

LIFE OF THE FLESH THAT IS IN THE BLOOD PRECEDES THE BREATH OF LIFE
The Life of the flesh that is in the blood always speaks and testifies of Jesus as we read above in (Lev. 17:11) and always precedes the breath of life that is representative of the Holy Spirit in the order of the Godhead “in heaven”. When Jesus “breathed on” His disciples “and said”, “Receive ye the Holy Ghost”, (John 20:22); we understand by “breathed” that it is the Holy Spirit that is represented as the ‘breath of life’.(Gen 2:7). With the Holy Spirit bearing witness “in earth” of the order of the Godhead in heaven, let us now proceed to understand how the three that “bear record in heaven” parallel and reveal “when life begins” and “personhood” is established here “in earth”.

If Jesus, might have the preeminence in all things, (Col. 1:18); (Eph. 1:21); (John 3:35); and always precedes the Holy Spirit, in the order of God in heaven, which we find throughout the Bible, then, the life of the flesh that is in the blood, that represents Jesus (Lev.17:11) must precede the “breath of life that represents the Holy Spirit, (John 20:22; John 3:8); (Acts 2:2); (Eze.37:5,9).

More specifically, we find that life begins in earth at the time the marriage union of a man and a woman is consummated. The marriage union is consummated at a time when the most intimate act of the sexes is fulfilled when the man and the woman become “one flesh” (Mat.19:5); (I Cor. 6:16). Life begins with Jesus first supplying the life of the flesh that is in the blood of man “in earth” – in the woman, – at consummation before the Holy Spirit supplies the breath of life through the mother’s umbilical cord at conception. (John 20:22); (Acts 17:25)

This life, that is in the blood, in the seed of man, begins the process of the beginning of life at consummation, but at conception, God begins to form that precious innocent life within the womb when the breath of life is supplied by the mother. Not only in the natural time frame does life begin before conception but also according to His eternal power that is outside of natural time where God exists having created time and space. This is evident when God said to Jeremiah, “Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations” (Jer. 1:5). (Eph. 1:4); (Heb. 4:3) This is where the Lord holds us accountable and, “without excuse”, if we fail to see when life begins physically and eternally according to His “eternal power and Godhead” (Rom.1:20).

A NOTE OF ENCOURAGEMENT: If any find themselves in that situation of having committed abortion and may feel condemned and without hope for having believed that this life within is called a fetus, not understanding how and when life begins according (Romans 1:20), please know that there is forgiveness in God: If we, first of all “repent, turn, confess to God. “…he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1John 1:9).

In God’s omnipotent power to create life in His image, He chose to place the life of the flesh that is in the blood in the seed of man. From the multitude of seeds, only one of the minuscule seeds is all that is needed to create a person. That tiny seed contains the life of the flesh that is in the blood, representing Jesus, by whom life begins. Jesus came to earth to bring us life (John 10:10b). Let us keep in mind always that this microscopic seed, carrying life, swims upstream to its destination and must not be despised in the day of its small beginnings. (Zech. 4:10); (Job 8:7)

Before we close, we humbly present before the Supreme Court to consider the spiritual evidence above of when “personhood is established”, which the judiciary said, “in the development of man’s knowledge, is not in a position to speculate as to the answer.” Since the answer can not be given with man’s knowledge, we have appealed to the spiritual understanding according to the Word of God. Our plea is for the multitude of innocent lives that may possibly be aborted in the future.

Why Should We Value Life?

Why Should We Value Life?

So God created man in his own image of God he created him, male and female he created them.

-Genesis  1:27 (NIV)

From on man he made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live.

-Acts 17:26

This is what the LORD says-you Redeemer who formed you in the womb: I am the LORD, who has made all things, who alone stretched out the heavens, who spread out the earth by myself.

-Isaiah 44:24

For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones of powers or rulers or authorities, all things were created by him and for him.

-Colossians 1:16

Yet, O LORD you are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter, we are all the work of your hand.

-Isaiah 64:8

Who is the Creator of the Preborn?

Did not he who mad me in the womb make them? Did not the same one form us both within our mothers?

-Job 31:15

For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; you works are wonderful, I know that full well.  My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place.   When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, you eyes saw my unformed body.  All the days ordained for me were written in your book before on of them came to be.

-Psalm 139:13-16

How is God concerned with the Preborn?

Listen to me you islands; hear this you distant nations: Before I was born the LORD called me; from my birth he has made mention of my name.

-Isaiah 49:1

Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.

The Unborn – A Timeline

Fetal Development
From conception to birth

Day 1:  fertilization: all human chromosomes are present; unique human life begins.

Day 6:  embryo begins implantation in the uterus.

Day 22:  heart begins to beat with the child’s own blood, often a different type than the mothers’.

Week 3:  By the end of third week the child’s backbone spinal column and nervous system are forming.  The liver, kidneys and intestines begin to take shape.

Week 4:  By the end of week four the child is ten thousand times larger than the fertilized egg.

Week 5:  Eyes, legs, and hands begin to develop.

Week 6:  Brain waves are detectable; mouth and lips are present; fingernails are forming.

Week 7:  Eyelids, and toes form, nose distinct.  The baby is kicking and swimming.

Week 8:  Every organ is in place, bones begin to replace cartilage, and fingerprints begin to form.  By the 8th week the baby can begin to hear.

Weeks 9 and 10:  Teeth begin to form, fingernails develop.  The baby can turn his head, and frown.  The baby can hiccup.

Weeks 10 and 11:  The baby can “breathe” amniotic fluid and urinate.  Week 11 the baby can grasp objects placed in its hand; all organ systems are functioning.  The baby has a skeletal structure, nerves, and circulation.

Week 12:  The baby has all of the parts necessary to experience pain, including nerves, spinal cord, and thalamus.  Vocal cords are complete.  The baby can suck its thumb.

Week 14:  At this age, the heart pumps several quarts of
blood through the body every day.

Week 15:  The baby has an adult’s taste buds.

Month 4:  Bone Marrow is now beginning to form.  The heart is pumping 25 quarts of blood a day.  By the end of month 4 the baby will be 8-10 inches in length and will be one half of its birth weight.

Week 17:  The baby can have dream (REM) sleep.

Week 19:  Babies can routinely be saved at 21 to 22 weeks after fertilization, and sometimes they can be saved even younger.

Week 20:  The earliest stage at which Partial birth abortions are performed.  At 20 weeks the baby recognizes its’ mothers voice.

Months 5 and 6:  The baby practices breathing by inhaling amniotic fluid into its developing lungs. The baby will grasp at the umbilical cord when it feels it.  Most mothers feel an increase in movement, kicking, and hiccups from the baby.  Oil and sweat glands are now functioning.  The baby is now twelve inches long or more, and weighs up to one and a half pounds.

Months 7 through 9:  Eyeteeth are present.  The baby opens and closes his eyes.  The baby is using four of the five senses (vision, hearing, taste, and touch.)  He knows the difference between waking and sleeping, and can relate to the moods of the mother.  The baby’s skin begins to thicken, and a layer of fat is produced and stored beneath the skin.  Antibodies are built up, and the baby’s heart begins to pump 300 gallons of blood per day.  Approximately one week before the birth the baby stops growing, and “drops” usually head down into the pelvic cavity.
